Training programme on ‘Agroforestry systems’ and ‘Distribution of Tree Saplings” under Scheduled Caste
A training programme on ‘Agroforestry systems’ and ‘Distribution of Tree saplings was organized by AICRP on Agroforestry, PJTAU, Hyderabad at Veeravelli village, Bhongiri mandal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district on 21.07.2026 under Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (Agroforestry) funded by ICAR-Central Agroforestry Research Institute (CAFRI), Jhansi, U.P. by Dr. A.V. Ramanjaneyulu, Pr. Scientist (Agro.) & Head and Dr. D. Vijaya Lakshmi, Scientist (SSAC) from AICRP on Agroforestry, Mr. Thotakoori Shankaraiah, Sarpanch, Veeravelli; Mr. Srikanth, Dep. Sarpanch; Srinu, Field Assistant and 25 farmers were participated.
At the outset, Dr. Vijaya Lakshmi welcomed all the dignitaries and farmers for the training programme and also narrated main objectives as distribution of tree saplings multifarious benefits of growing trees along with crops and livestock in Agroforestry. Dr. A.V. Ramanjaneyulu explained about tree wise cultivation practices for profitable cultivation of Mango, custard apple, mahogany and Bamboo based Agroforestry systems. He also encouraged the farmers to go for block plantation, bund plantation, border plantation wherever possible in their farms and also link with VB-G RAMG (Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission) programme for plantation and maintenance. He also appealed to the farmers and village administration to take utmost care for watering and ensure 100% sapling survival due to prevailing El Nino induced drought conditions. The Sarpanch of the village, Mr. Thotakoori Shankaraiah thanked the scientists for selecting their village and conducting a training programme on Agroforestry under Scheduled Caste Sub plan. At the end, 1943 saplings (Mahogany-840, mango-100, custard apple-500 and bamboo-503) were distributed to beneficiary farmers of the village.
Later, visited Sandalwood based agroforestry system farms of N. Ramchandra Reddy (32 acres, Puligilla village) and Laxmareddy (35 acres, Nandanam village, Bhongiri) and suggested management practices.
