The 92nd Birth Anniversary of Prof. Kothapalli Jayashankar, the revered ideologue and Intellectual Architect of Telangana

The 92nd Birth Anniversary of Prof. Kothapalli Jayashankar, the revered ideologue and Intellectual Architect of Telangana, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and reverence at Babu Jagjivan Ram Agricultural College, Sircilla, on 06 August 2026. The programme was organized to commemorate the remarkable contributions of Prof. Jayashankar towards the Telangana movement and to inspire the student community with his ideals of Knowledge, Leadership, and Service.

The programme commenced with the rendition of the Telangana State Song, followed by the Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University Song. The atmosphere was filled with pride and respect as the Associate Dean, faculty members, students, non-teaching staff, and outsourcing staff paid floral tributes to the portrait of Prof. Kothapalli Jayashankar in recognition of his invaluable contribution to society and the formation of Telangana State.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. T. Arun Babu, Officer In-charge of Student Affairs (OISA). He welcomed the gathering and briefly explained the significance of organizing the birth anniversary celebrations. In his address, he highlighted the visionary leadership, unwavering commitment, scholarly excellence, and selfless service of Prof. Kothapalli Jayashankar, emphasizing why he is remembered as the Intellectual Architect of Telangana. He elaborated on how Prof. Jayashankar’s lifelong dedication, academic research, and relentless advocacy laid the foundation for the successful Telangana movement and continue to inspire generations of students and citizens.

As part of the programme, first-year students shared their thoughts on the life history, philosophy, and contributions of Prof. Jayashankar. The students reflected on his commitment to social justice, educational excellence, and regional development, expressing how his life serves as an inspiration for the younger generation.

Ms. Srija, Teaching Associate, Department of Agronomy, delivered an inspiring speech on the life and contributions of Prof. Jayashankar. She explained the immense role played by him in the Telangana movement and emphasized that the Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University proudly bears his name in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the people of Telangana and his lifelong dedication to education and social justice.

Dr. B. Harikrishna, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), and Dr. A. Anil Reddy shared their personal experiences and their participation during the Telangana movement. They narrated various incidents reflected the determination, sacrifices, and aspirations of the people during the struggle for statehood. Their experiences provided valuable insights to the students regarding the historical significance of the movement.

Dr. T. Lavanya, Professor, Department of Agricultural Economics, highlighted the economic vision of Prof. Jayashankar. She explained how his extensive research, economic analysis, and scholarly work exposed the regional disparities that existed in Telangana and scientifically justified the demand for a separate state. She emphasized that Prof. Jayashankar’s evidence-based approach and commitment to truth continue to inspire economists, researchers, and policymakers.

Prof. Raiza Sulthana, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, shared her experiences during the Telangana movement and explained how Prof. Jayashankar inspired thousands of youth to actively participate in the movement through peaceful, democratic, and intellectual means. She encouraged the students to emulate his dedication, discipline, and commitment towards society.

In his address, Dr. S. Upendhar, Associate Dean, emphasized that the responsibility of today’s youth is to contribute towards the development of Telangana after the achievement of statehood. He advised the students to make the best use of the numerous opportunities available in the agricultural sector through education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and research. He stated that the greatest lesson students should learn from the life of Prof. Kothapalli Jayashankar is to dedicate their knowledge and abilities for the welfare of society and nation-building.

As part of the celebrations, prizes were distributed to the winners of the Essay Writing and Elocution Competitions, which were organized on the eve of the 92nd Birth Anniversary celebrations.
