Babu Jagjivan Ram Agricultural College, Sircilla celebrated Teachers’ Day with great enthusiasm and reverence to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, an eminent philosopher, educationist, scholar and former President of India. The programme was organized to recognize the dedication and contributions of teachers towards shaping the academic, professional and personal lives of students and to highlight the significance of the teaching profession in nation-building.
The programme commenced with the University Song, creating a dignified and academic atmosphere. This was followed by floral tributes to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan by the Associate Dean, Dr. S. Upendhar, Officer In-charge of Student Activities, Dr. T. Arunbabu, NSS Programme Officers, Wardens, faculty members and students. The floral tribute symbolized the college community’s respect and gratitude towards Dr. Radhakrishnan and his remarkable contribution to education in India.
The significance of Teachers’ Day was briefed to the gathering, highlighting the life and contributions of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. It was emphasized that Teachers’ Day provides an opportunity for students to express their gratitude and appreciation for the guidance, mentorship and support provided by teachers. The role of teachers in nurturing values, discipline, knowledge, leadership qualities and responsible citizenship among students was also highlighted.
Addressing the gathering, the Associate Dean, Dr. S. Upendhar, appreciated the commitment and dedication of the faculty members in imparting quality education and providing continuous guidance to students. He emphasized that teaching is not merely a profession but a responsibility to develop competent, ethical and socially responsible individuals. He also encouraged students to respect their teachers, utilize the opportunities provided by the institution and strive for excellence in academics and extracurricular activities.
The Officer In-charge of Student Activities, Dr. T. Arunbabu, highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong teacher–student relationship. He stated that teachers play the role of mentors and facilitators by guiding students in their academic pursuits, career development and overall personality development. He also appreciated the active participation of students in organizing and observing Teachers’ Day.
The NSS Programme Officers and faculty members shared their views on the importance of teaching and mentoring in higher education. They highlighted that teachers have a significant role in identifying the strengths and potential of students and encouraging them to develop confidence, leadership skills, discipline and a sense of social responsibility.
Students actively participated in the celebrations and expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the faculty members for their continuous guidance, encouragement and support. The celebrations provided an opportunity for students and teachers to interact in a cordial and positive atmosphere and strengthened the bond between the faculty and student community.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Associate Dean, Officer In-charge of Student Activities, NSS Programme Officers, faculty members and students for their active participation and support. The Teachers’ Day celebrations were conducted in a respectful and meaningful manner, reaffirming the importance of teachers in shaping the future of students and contributing to the development of society and the nation.
