Seed Science and Technology

The Post Graduate (M.Sc. Agriculture) and Doctoral (Ph.D.) programmes in the Department of Seed Science and Technology were introduced in 1987 and 2017, respectively. To strengthen teaching–research integration, the Department was shifted from the College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar to the Seed Research and Technology Centre, enabling student involvement in need-based seed research. As part of the curriculum, students are exposed to seed industries for hands-on training and real-time practical knowledge. The P.G. and Ph.D. research programmes are designed in collaboration with research institutes and the seed industry to address industry-relevant challenges. Graduates are well placed in national and multinational seed industries, particularly in and around Hyderabad.

Student Experiences

My research has been nearly finished lately. I therefore want to share my experiences from the research work and coursework. I would also like to express my gratitude to all of the SRTC and DSST staff for their steadfast support during the research work and their understanding of the needs and work of the students. Because staff members are always willing to answer any questions I may have about work or anything linked to academics, their assistance helped me feel confident while working.

I completed my M.Sc. in Seed Science and Technology at PJTAU. The department provided us a strong academic and research foundation with supportive and approachable faculty members. Emphasis was placed on experiential learning through well-structured laboratory classes, regular field exposure and industry-oriented training. Educational visits to seed companies and government institutes strengthened our understanding of seed production, post-harvest management, seed quality control, certification and seed marketing. Field visits during seed production courses offered valuable hands-on experience. The faculty guided us effectively in research activities, skill development and career planning, which helped me complete my research work smoothly and prepared me for professional opportunities.
