Remote Sensing and GIS Applications, an exposure visit was organized
Remote Sensing and GIS Applications, an exposure visit was organized on 13.04.2026 for the B.Tech Final Year students of the College of Agricultural Engineering, Kandi, Sangareddy.
The students visited the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Jeedimetla, Hyderabad, as part of a study tour to gain practical exposure to remote sensing and GIS technologies.
During the visit, Dr. Shivaiah, Scientist at NRSC, delivered an insightful session covering the history and evolution of the Indian Space Research Organisation from the 1960s to 2025. He explained the scientific principles of remote sensing and highlighted its wide range of applications in fields such as weather forecasting, defence, agriculture, forestry, geology, water resource management, and communication systems. The students were introduced to various satellite modules and gained practical understanding of how data is transmitted from satellites to ground stations through antennas, and how it is processed using advanced data processing systems. In addition, the working principles of the Global Positioning System (GPS) were explained in detail.
A 3D film presentation was also shown, demonstrating how weather forecasting is analyzed using satellite data as it passes over the Earth’s surface. The session further provided insights into the physical characteristics of different planets.
Overall, the visit was highly informative and significantly enriched the students’ practical knowledge in the field of Remote Sensing and GIS.
A total of 50 students along with faculty members participated in the visit.
