National Sports Day–2026 was celebrated at Agricultural College, Aswaraopet, as part of a three-day campaign

As per Memo No. 220 (55)/DSA Peshi/PJTAU/2026-Revised, dated 27.08.2026, issued by the Dean of Student Affairs, National Sports Day–2026 was celebrated at Agricultural College, Aswaraopet, as part of a three-day campaign from 28th to 30th August 2026, under the theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat.” The programme was organized in association with the Office of Student Affairs and NSS Team.

As part of the campaign, students of Agricultural College, Aswaraopet were encouraged to actively participate in various sports and games. Several indoor and outdoor competitions for both boys and girls were conducted from 26th to 29th August 2026. Brisk walking and shuttle badminton competitions were also organized for the non-teaching staff.

In addition to the sports competitions, essay writing, elocution and poster presentation competitions were conducted. Students enthusiastically expressed their views on topics such as “The Importance of Sports and Games in Our Lives,” the role of sports in youth development, and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Through their speeches and presentations, students highlighted that sports not only help reduce stress but also enhance self-confidence, physical fitness and mental well-being, while contributing to the development of a healthy society. They emphasized that the spirit of sportsmanship should be an integral part of everyone’s life.

On 29th August 2026, National Sports Day was celebrated grandly at the college to commemorate the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary hockey player who rendered unforgettable services to Indian sports. The primary objective of the programme was to promote interest in sports among students, teaching staff and non-teaching staff, while fostering physical fitness, mental well-being, discipline, teamwork and leadership qualities.

On the occasion, the College Associate Dean, Dr. J. Hemantha Kumar, participated as the Chief Guest and addressed the students. He highlighted Major Dhyan Chand’s remarkable contribution to Indian sports, his inspiring life journey and his unwavering dedication to hockey. He stated that Major Dhyan Chand brought special recognition to India at the international level through his exceptional talent, hard work and discipline. He emphasized that Dhyan Chand’s life continues to inspire the youth and that success requires not only talent but also continuous practice, perseverance and discipline.

Dr. J. Hemantha Kumar further stated that sports are not merely confined to competitions but play a vital role in the overall development of students. Participation in sports helps improve physical health and mental strength while cultivating time management, teamwork, leadership qualities and the courage to accept both victory and defeat. He advised students to give due importance to sports along with academics. He also assured that efforts would be made to further strengthen sports facilities at the college and identify, nurture and encourage the hidden sporting talent among students. Further, he encouraged the staff and students to actively participate in sports at least one hour under the campaign of “Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein”.

The celebrations witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and staff in various indoor and outdoor sporting events. Special competitions for the staff added further excitement and enthusiasm to the programme. The participants displayed excellent sporting spirit, teamwork and competitive spirit throughout the events.

Prizes and certificates of appreciation were presented to the winners and runners-up of various sports, elocution and poster competitions in recognition of their outstanding performance and participation. Smt. Jayamma, Administrative Officer, Dr. K. Shireesha, and other faculty and staff members participated in the programme and encouraged the students. A large number of students, teaching staff and non-teaching staff took part in the celebrations and contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.

The National Sports Day programme was systematically planned, coordinated and successfully conducted by the NSS Coordinators, Dr. N. Jemimah and Dr. P. Neelima, in association with the OSA and team. The organizers expressed their sincere gratitude to all the students, teaching and non-teaching staff, and everyone who extended their support and cooperation towards making the National Sports Day–2026 celebrations a grand success.
