Department of Food & Nutrition

The Department of Foods & Nutrition is one among the five major disciplines of College of Community Science, PJTAU, Hyderabad. Department of Foods & Nutrition is a pioneering department in the Faculty of Community Science. The post graduate programme was initiated in the early 1968 followed by Doctoral programme in 1978. The department focuses on building student capacity to design and manage family- and community-based interventions for food and nutrition security. It offers a strong foundation in food science, processing and preservation, safety and quality control, product development, dietetics, and nutritional assessment, while equipping students with practical skills in dietary treatment and counselling. Graduates are prepared for diverse careers as Food Safety Officer, Nutrition Consultant, curriculum developers, training coordinators, clinical nutritionists, dietitians, or public health nutritionists, working in academic institutions, hospitals, wellness centers, health departments, NGOs, and corporate training settings.

      Student Experiences

      I am Dr. S. Rachana Sree, my journey started at PJTAU through my graduation which laid strong foundation for my career. It played a pivotal role in shaping my professional journey by providing strong academic foundation by hands on experience. I completed by UG in 2018, PG 2020 and Ph.D 2023. The university’s well-structured curriculum and experienced faculty members helped me to gain depth knowledge and guided me to choose my area of interest in Foods and Nutrition which is the most trending course in present scenario face. We were facilitated by field works, lab sessions and projects to improve our knowledge.

      I am Dr. Bakam Himabindhu, honoured to be an alumna of Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU), which laid the foundation for my academic and professional journey. I have completed my Ph.D. in the Department of Food and Nutrition from the College of Community Science during the period 2020 to 2023. Program comprises course work for three semesters and three semesters for research work. I was introduced to both core and specialized areas during the coursework phase, which provided a strong foundation for my research.

      I am Dr. B. Neeharika, working as Subject Matter Specialist (Level-10) at ICAR-NIRCA-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kandukur recruited through ASRB selection process. I feel privileged to be alumna of Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU), where I have studied B.Sc. (Hons.) Food Science and Nutrition (2014-2018) and M.Sc. Home Science (2018-2020) with specialisation in Foods and Nutrition. I am delighted to share that the foundation for my commendable academic record was laid at PJTAU. During B.Sc.

      I am Pavuluri Yasaswini, an ICAR student who secured the prestigious ICAR-AIR-9th rank and joined the M.Sc. program in Foods and Nutrition at the College of Community Science, PJTSAU, Rajendranagar in 2019. My journey at this institution laid a strong foundation for my academic and research aspirations. The college provided me with a deep understanding of nutritional science, along with hands-on experience in food analysis and laboratory practices.
