Agricultural College, Polasa, Jagtial is located in Northern Telangana Agro-climatic Zone. It was established in the year 2008 with an intake of 80 students in under graduation vide G.O.Ms No.258 dated 08-09-2008 of Food and Agriculture Department, Government of Telangana. The Agricultural College, Jagtial is one of the constituent colleges of Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University. The college offers one undergraduate programme viz., B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture and three postgraduate programmes in the disciplines of Agronomy, Genetics & Plant Breeding, and Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry.
Objectives:
- To impart knowledge, training and skills to the students to develop as successful entrepreneurs and build their capacities to meet the farmers and industry needs.
- To conduct basic and applied research towards the development of agriculture and finding solutions to address the state level problems.
- To train the students towards dissemination of sustainable research outcomes to the state farmers.
Agricultural College, Jagtial has evolved into a dynamic centre of excellence in agricultural education, research, and extension. Over the past eighteen years, the college has consistently contributed to developing skilled agricultural professionals through a blend of academic rigor, practical exposure, and community engagement. During 2025–26, the institution catered to a vibrant student community of over 278 students, with an intake of 187 students. Academic performance remained strong, with 90.4% of undergraduate and 100% of postgraduate students successfully clearing examinations. Experiential learning is a key strength, with well-established units such as vermicomposting, mushroom production, commercial vegetable production and marketing under polyhouse; and soil fertility and water quality assessment unit providing hands-on training and entrepreneurial exposure to students.
The college is well-equipped with modern infrastructure, including smart classrooms, well-established laboratories, Wi-Fi-enabled campus, instructional farm, and a Knowledge Management Centre. Separate hostel facilities for boys and girls ensure a safe and conducive learning environment with amenities such as solar water systems, gym, sports complex and study rooms.
Students actively participate in academic, sports, and cultural activities at university, state, and national levels. Notable achievements include top positions in intercollegiate competitions and medals in state and national kickboxing championships. Several students have also received prestigious university gold medals for academic excellence. Two gold medals have been instituted in the name of “Smt. Pulikanti Suvarna Memorial Gold Medal” and “Sri Manga Bala Mallaiah Memorial Gold Medal” for the students securing highest OGPA in B. Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture at college level. Career development is supported through trainings, coaching centres for competitive exams, and campus recruitment drives, resulting in placements in reputed organizations and banking sector.
The college plays a vital role in farmer outreach through village adoption programs, training programmes, and field diagnostics. Initiatives such as “Rythu Mungitlo Shastravettalu” and “Quality Seed for Every Village” have significantly contributed to technology dissemination and farmer empowerment.
Faculty members actively engaged in research, with proposals for externally funded projects and publications in high-impact journals. During 2025–26, 24 research papers and several popular articles were published, contributing to both scientific advancement and farmer awareness.
The institution promotes holistic development through NSS activities, environmental campaigns, health camps, and cultural programs. The Green Graduation initiative and cleanliness drives reflect the college’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
