Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bhadradri Kothagudem staff participated in the Parthenium Awareness Week programme organized at KVK premises on 22.08.2026. During the programme, Dr. T. Bharath, Senior Scientist & Head, created awareness among the staff about the harmful effects of Parthenium hysterophorus (Congress grass) on human beings, animals and the environment. He explained that exposure to Parthenium pollen and plant material can cause health problems such as hay fever, bronchitis, asthma and skin allergies in humans. He also highlighted its adverse effects on livestock. Continuous exposure or consumption of Parthenium-contaminated fodder may affect animal health and can reduce milk production, particularly in buffaloes. He stressed the importance of timely identification and proper management of Parthenium to prevent its spread and minimize its harmful effects.

The programme concluded with a message to staff and farmers to take collective measures for the effective management and eradication of Parthenium in agricultural fields and surrounding areas.
