Awareness programme on “Khet Bachao” at Aaragidda village of Gattu Mandal
Dr. P. Archana, Coordinator, TRVK, Jogulamba Gadwal, conducted an awareness programme on “Khet Bachao” at Aaragidda village of Gattu Mandal on 02-11-2026. During the programme, farmers were sensitised about suitable crop selection under the prevailing weather conditions and the anticipated El Niño effect. Farmers were advised to avoid water-intensive crops such as maize and paddy and instead take up alternative crops like sorghum (jowar), horse gram, cowpea and groundnut, depending on soil type, available soil moisture and local rainfall conditions. She also emphasised the importance of judicious utilisation of water and energy resources, reducing unnecessary irrigation and electricity consumption, and adopting climate-resilient cropping systems to minimise the potential impact of El Niño conditions expected up to July 2027. Participants: Sri Hanumanthu, MAO, Gattu; AEO, Aaragidda; ATMA representative; Sarpanch, Aaragidda; Panchayat Secretary; and 30 farmers actively participated in the programme. The programme highlighted the importance of crop diversification, water conservation and climate-smart agricultural practices under changing weather conditions.
