Department of Agronomy

The postgraduate programme in Agronomy provides advanced knowledge in crop production, soil management and sustainable farming practices. It focuses on enhancing crop yields while, promoting environmental sustainability through modern research, resource-efficient techniques and climate-resilient strategies

    Student Experiences

    The department is supported by a team of highly experienced and knowledgeable faculty who teach and guide students in academics, with special emphasis on imparting practical skills aligned with present-day agricultural needs. Individual attention is ensured through personal care, including student counselling and regular reviews conducted by the Head of the Department, PG Incharge and the Advisory Committee, addressing day-to-day academic matters as well as other relevant issues. The department is also equipped with strong infrastructure, including well-established research laboratories and field classrooms, to cater to the diverse research and course requirements of both PG and Ph.D. students.

    The knowledgeable and highly co-operative staff mentor students by organizing varied professional activities, including guest lectures, interactive sessions with Agronomy alumni, successful entrepreneurs, and personality development programs. These initiatives aim to enhance professional competence and mold the student fraternity to meet present-day job roles as successful agronomists, agricultural scientists in government and private sectors, as well as young and dynamic entrepreneurs.

    The Department of Agronomy has distinguished teaching faculty, supported by sub-staff who facilitate and help in academics and research. Courses are designed to impart practical knowledge tailored to the present-day needs of the farming community. Practical classes include exposure visits to research units under PJTSAU as well as related ICAR institutes, helping students better understand concepts and research technologies developed by the scientific team
