Field Visit by TRVK Gadwal and RARS Scientists to Assess Crop Health and Pest Incidence
Dr. P. Archana, Coordinator, Telangana Rythu Vignana Kendra (TRVK), Gadwal, along with RARS scientists Sri A. Sriram, Dr. K. Mamatha and Dr. G. Madhuri, conducted a field visit to Beechupally, Anathapuram, Pudur and Kondapally villages in Yerravalli and Gadwal mandals of Jogulamba Gadwal district on October 9, 2026.
During the visit, the scientists inspected paddy, chilli, redgram, bhendi and cotton crops and interacted with farmers regarding crop growth, pest incidence and crop management practices.
Cotton: The crop was at the harvesting stage, and pink bollworm incidence was observed. Farmers were advised to complete the remaining harvesting operations by the first fortnight of November, depending on crop maturity and field conditions.
Chilli: The crop was cultivated under drip irrigation, and upward leaf curling symptoms were observed. Farmers reported that they had already undertaken seven sprays for thrips management and that the pest had been effectively controlled.
Bhendi (okra): The crop was approximately two months old and had reached the 43rd picking stage. The farmer reported spraying emamectin benzoate for fruit borer management.
Paddy: The crop was at the active tillering stage, and panicle mite incidence was observed. Farmers were advised to confirm the pest and use only a suitable pesticide approved for rice, strictly according to the label directions.
The team also inspected redgram fields and assessed crop growth and health. A total of five farmers participated in the field interaction and received technical guidance on crop protection and scientific crop management.
The field visit aimed to identify crop-related problems at the field level and provide timely scientific advisories to farmers for improving crop health and productivity.
