A planting programme for establishing an Indigenous (wild) Fruit Tree Garden (II Phase) comprising 05 different indigenous (wild) fruit tree species amounting to 100 saplings was organized on 08 October 2026 (Thursday) at AICRP on Agroforestry, Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, with financial support from PepsiCo in collaboration with Nirmaan Organization NGO, Hyderabad.
Dr. A. V. Ramanjaneyulu, Principal Scientist (Agro.) and Head, Agroforestry, explained the objectives and significance of the planting programme and development of sustainable and profitable agroforestry models and thanked immensely the PepsiCo and Nirmaan Organization, Hyderabad for their financial support and cooperation. Dr. V. Ramulu, Director, C-NARE, PJTAU, while addressing the gathering, thanked the PepsiCo and NIRMAAN for generous support for planting programme in this era of global warming, climate change, urbanization, industrialization and deforestation. He stated that this kind of planting will help for higher carbon sequestration, conserving biodiversity and better research.
Ms. Shradha Karade, leadership from PepsiCo thanked all for participating in this event. Today we are not just planting trees but taking a small step for sowing a seed for a Sustainable future. As a PepsiCo, we believe that our responsibility goes beyond business and that is what PepsiCo has been doing since years contributing towards the community and also trying to put efforts to protect the planet for future generations. Dr. D. Vijayalakshmi, Scientist (Soil Science) explained in detail about the procedure to be followed for planting the saplings including careful removal of plastic cover, planting with undisturbed mud ball, soil+vermicompost+Cholorpyriphos dust filling, pressing with legs to remove air pockets, watering and basin making for successful establishment.
100 saplings belonging to five tree type viz., Cocos nucifera (Kobbari), Morus alba (Mulberry), Litsea glutinosa (Naramamidi), Cordia dichotoma (Iriki) and Semecarpus anacardium (Nalla jeedi) were planted on the hands of team of PepsiCo, NIRMAAN organization and PJTAU, Hyderabad. 100 participants voluntarily took part in the plantation programme. The participants included approximately 75 employees from PepsiCo including Mr. Ajay Khandelwal and Ms. Suneeta Govind, representatives from NIRMAAN Mr. B. Thirupathi, Ms. Sana Saleha, 10 representatives from NIRMAAN including Mr. B. Thirupathi, Mr. B. Nikhil, Mr. G. Shanth Kumar, and 15 officials and staff from C-NARE and AICRP on Agroforestry, including Dr. K. Suresh, Dr. M. Ramesh, Scientist (Pl. Br.) and AEOs Mr. A. Rambabu and Mr. P. Bikshapathi.
