BJR AGC SRCL Celebrated 157th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi 02.10. 2026
The 157th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated at Babu Jagjivan Ram Agricultural College, Sircilla, on 2nd October 2026. The programme was attended by the Associate Dean, Dr. S. Upendhar, OISA, teaching, non-teaching staff and students, who gathered to pay floral tributes to the Father of the Nation and commemorate his invaluable contributions to India’s freedom struggle.
The programme commenced with the University Song, followed by floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest and most influential personalities in Indian history. On the occasion, faculty members and students shared their thoughts on the life, ideals, struggles and sacrifices of Mahatma Gandhi in India’s freedom movement. They also reflected on the relevance of Gandhian principles in the present-day context and discussed whether contemporary India is progressing in accordance with the vision and values envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi.
As per the University instructions, college-level competitions, including Essay Writing in English and Telugu and Elocution in English, were conducted to select students for participation in the University-level competitions commemorating the 157th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The first and second prize winners in each competition were felicitated with prizes.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. S. Upendhar, Associate Dean highlighted the significance of the two powerful weapons of Mahatma Gandhi – Truth and Non-Violence, through which he inspired millions of Indians to unite and participate in the freedom struggle. He recalled the important movements led by Mahatma Gandhi, including the Non-Cooperation Movement, Salt March (Dandi March) and Quit India Movement, which played a significant role in India’s struggle for independence.
He further emphasized that the present era is driven by science and technology and highlighted the responsibility of agricultural graduates in nation-building. He encouraged students to return to their villages after completing their degree programmes and utilize their scientific knowledge, technological skills and agricultural innovations to empower farmers and rural communities, thereby contributing to agricultural development and overall national progress. All the participants expressed their happiness in being part of the programme and paid tributes to the Father of the Nation.
