An Exposure Visit and One-Day Capsule Training Programme was organized on 29.09.2026 for the B.Tech Final Year students
As part of the practical curriculum of SWCE 454 – Remote Sensing and GIS Applications, an Exposure Visit and One-Day Capsule Training Programme was organized on 29.09.2026 for the B.Tech Final Year students of the College of Agricultural Engineering, Kandi, Sangareddy, under the Department of Soil and Water Conservation Engineering (SWCE).
A total of 57 students, along with faculty members of the SWCE Department, participated in the visit to the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC–ISRO), Jeedimetla, Hyderabad. The main objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to Remote Sensing, Geographic Information System (GIS), satellite data, space technology applications in agriculture, natural resource management, and related technologies.
Technical Sessions
During the visit, Dr. Hariesh Perasa, Scientist, NRSC, delivered an introductory session on Remote Sensing, explaining its basic concepts, principles and applications.
Dr. Stutee Gupta, Scientist, NRSC, delivered a session on GIS, highlighting the role of spatial data and GIS technologies in various applications, particularly in agriculture and natural resource management.
Dr. Shivaiah, Scientist, NRSC, delivered an insightful session on the history and evolution of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) from the 1960s to 2025. He explained the scientific principles of remote sensing and discussed its wide-ranging applications in weather forecasting, defence, agriculture, forestry, geology, water resource management and communication systems.
The students were also introduced to various satellite modules and systems and gained practical understanding of how satellite data are transmitted to ground stations through antennas and subsequently processed using advanced data processing systems. The working principles and applications of the Global Positioning System (GPS) were also explained in detail.
Demonstration and Practical Exposure
As part of the programme, the students witnessed a 3D film presentation demonstrating how satellite data are used for analysing weather conditions and forecasting as satellites pass over the Earth’s surface. The presentation also provided students with interesting insights into the physical characteristics of different planets.
The students further visited various technical facilities at NRSC and gained first-hand exposure to the application of satellite data, Remote Sensing, GIS and space-based technologies.
Outcome of the Visit
The exposure visit provided students with valuable practical knowledge beyond classroom teaching and helped them understand the real-world applications of the concepts covered in SWCE 454 – Remote Sensing and GIS Applications. The interaction with NRSC scientists and exposure to advanced space and geospatial technologies significantly enriched the students’ understanding of modern applications in agriculture, water resources, natural resource management and environmental monitoring.
Overall, the visit was highly informative and academically enriching, providing students with meaningful practical exposure to contemporary Remote Sensing and GIS technologies.
