Training on Integrated Disease Management in Cotton cum Diagnostic field visit” at Salkarpet

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Palem organized a training programme on Integrated Disease Management (IDM) in Cotton at Salkarpet (V), Bijnepally (M), Nagarkurnool (D) on 23.09.2026, to create awareness among farmers on the identification, prevention and management of major diseases of cotton. During the training programme, farmers were sensitized on the major diseases of cotton and their integrated management practices. The cotton crop was presently at the boll bursting stage. Field observations showed reddening of leaves, symptoms of magnesium deficiency and moisture stress in several fields. Appropriate management measures and preventive practices were explained to the farmers, with emphasis on balanced nutrient management, moisture conservation, regular field monitoring and need-based disease management. Following the training programme, a diagnostic field visit was conducted to assess the prevailing crop and pest/disease situations in paddy and blackgram fields. Around 12 farmers participated in the diagnostic field visit. During the current season, changes in the cropping pattern were observed in the village, with blackgram replacing part of the area previously under maize. Paddy, cotton and blackgram are presently the major crops cultivated in the village. In paddy, the crop was at the active tillering stage. Reddening of leaves, leaf blast and stem borer incidence were observed in the visited fields. Need-based suggestions were provided. Subsequently, blackgram fields were visited. The crop was at the vegetative to flowering stage. Severe stem fly incidence was observed in most of the fields. Farmers were advised application of Chlorantraniliprole @ 60 ml/acre along with neem oil @ 1 litre/acre. Application of Carbofuran 3G granules @ 4 kg/acre was also suggested as a soil application. In this programme Dr. O. Shaila, senior Scientist &Head i/c, SMS (PP), KVK, Palem, Sri G. Madhu, Agriculture Extension Officer (AEO), Sri Ramulu, Village Sarpanch, and 29 farmers were participated.
