Organized Kisan Mela on 19.09.2026 at  RARS

Regional Agricultural Research Station, Palem, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, organized a Kisan Mela on 19.09.2026 at Auditorium, RARS, Palem.  The programme was attended by Sri Hemantha Keshav Patil, Hon’ble Collector & District Magistrate, Nagarkurnool; Sri KVN Reddy, Member, Telangana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Commission; Dr. L. Krishna, ADR, RARS, Palem; Sri Chandra Sekhar, DAO i/c, Nagarkurnool; and other departmental officials. A total of about 800 farmers from different mandals of the district participated in the programme.

During the visit to the exhibition stalls, Sri Hemantha Keshav Patil, Hon’ble Collector & District Magistrate, Nagarkurnool, enquired about the potential for expanding castor cultivation in the Amrabad area and the cost of cultivation of various crops. He instructed the District Agriculture Department officials to explore the expansion of castor cultivation in Amrabad Mandal through PACS. He also interacted with the scientists and enquired about minor millets and their importance, as well as the benefits and scope of cold-pressed oils. During his interaction with the farmers, he highlighted the importance of crop diversification and the utilization of available irrigation water for crop production. Sri KVN Reddy, Member, Telangana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Commission, briefed the farmers about various government schemes beneficial to farmers and new agricultural technologies available for adoption.

Dr. L. Krishna, ADR, RARS, Palem, explained the importance of rabi groundnut cultivation, with particular emphasis on TCGS-1694 (Vishishta), adaptive trials and precautions to be taken under the anticipated El Niño conditions. Sri Chandra Sekhar, DAO i/c, Nagarkurnool, presented the statistical area under different kharif and rabi crops in the district and explained the various schemes being implemented by the Department of Agriculture. Agriculture students displayed various agriculture-related models, technologies and innovations in the exhibition stalls. Farmers visited the demonstration plots of millets, pulses, oilseeds and exhibition stalls and gained information on improved varieties and newly developed agricultural technologies.

Scientists from RARS, Palem, namely Dr. D. Shashibhushan, PS (Oilseeds) Dr. M. Shankar, Scientist (Entomology) Dr. G. Eswara Reddy, Scientist (Plant Breeding), Dr. V. Divya Rani, Scientist (Plant Pathology) and Mrs. K. Mamatha, Scientist (Agronomy) and Dr. O. Shaila, Senior Scientist & Head i/c, KVK, Palem, interacted with the farmers during the technical session and created awareness regarding the expected El Niño conditions, suitable rabi crops and the availability of quality seed for the ensuing season. The scientists of RARS, Palem; KVK, Palem; and Agriculture College, Palem participated in farmer–scientist interaction, field visits and technical guidance.
