A team of C-NARE scientists visited the adopted village of Nallavelli, Yacharam (M)

A team of C-NARE scientists comprising Dr. G. Manoj Kumar, Principal Scientist (Agricultural Engineering); Dr. M. Shankar, Principal Scientist (Soil Science); Dr. Md. Latheef Pasha, Principal Scientist (Agronomy); Dr. T. Shailaja, Senior Scientist (Soil Science); and Dr. V. Prasad, Teaching Associate, visited the adopted village of Nallavelli, Yacharam (M), Ranga Reddy District, on 22-08-2026. The scientists demonstrated the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) irrigation practice in transplanted rice under well irrigation and installed AWD PVC pipes in the farmers’ fields for the economization of irrigation water during this water limited El Niño season. In addition, a rain gauge was installed in the field of a progressive farmer in Nallavelli village to create awareness of rainfall events and to help manage the available water resources of the village accordingly.

The team demonstrated how to install the perforated AWD PVC pipe in the rice field and explained to the farmers (nearly 15 in number) the scheduling of irrigation water based on the falling water level in the pipe at different growth stages of rice, for the efficient utilization of irrigation water. The scientists also demonstrated the rain gauge installation and how to measure the amount of rainfall received on a rainy day using a measuring cylinder and handed over an observation notebook to the farmer for recording rainfall. The scientists further collected soil samples from rice fields where both organic and chemical farming are practised. Finally, a benchmark survey template was handed over to the AEO of Nallavelli village for the collection of village data and farmers’ details.
