The Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University, organized a guest lecture on “How to Get a Job” on 17 August 2026 at 12:00 noon at the Academic Block. The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. C. Narendra Reddy, Associate Dean, College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar; Dr. P. Jagan Mohan Rao, Professor (AL-15) and Head; and Dr. K. Chaitanya, Assistant Professor & OISA.
The objective of the programme was to create awareness among students about the wide range of career opportunities available after graduation in agriculture and allied fields and to provide practical guidance on preparing for employment in both the public and private sectors.
The guest lecture was delivered by Dr. B. Rupesh Kumar Reddy, Senior Scientist, Genetics and Plant Breeding Research Station (GPBR), RARS, Tirupati. In his informative and engaging presentation, Dr. Rupesh Kumar Reddy explained the various career avenues available to agriculture graduates and highlighted the importance of identifying one’s interests, developing appropriate skills, and preparing systematically for competitive examinations and recruitment processes.
Dr. Rupesh Kumar Reddy elaborated on the opportunities in the public sector, explaining that agriculture graduates can pursue careers through various government departments, agricultural universities, research institutions, banking and financial institutions, extension services, and other allied organizations. He discussed the importance of preparing for competitive examinations and emphasized that students should keep themselves updated about recruitment notifications, eligibility criteria, examination patterns, and relevant subject areas.
He also highlighted the significant employment opportunities in the private sector. The students were informed about career prospects in seed companies, agricultural input industries, fertilizer and pesticide companies, agri-business firms, food-processing industries, banking and insurance, agricultural marketing, farm management, consultancy, agri-tech companies, and other organizations associated with the agricultural sector. He encouraged students to understand the requirements of the industry and acquire skills that improve their employability.
A major focus of the lecture was on career preparation and employability skills. The speaker stressed that academic qualifications alone may not be sufficient to secure a good job. Students need to develop communication skills, confidence, subject knowledge, computer proficiency, problem-solving ability, teamwork, leadership qualities, and professional attitude. He also emphasized the importance of preparing an effective resume, developing interview skills, and presenting one’s strengths clearly during job interviews.
The speaker encouraged the students to explore multiple career pathways rather than depending solely on a single type of employment. He advised them to make use of internships, training programmes, workshops, skill-development opportunities, competitive-examination preparation, and professional networking to gain practical exposure and improve their career prospects.
The lecture was highly interactive, and students showed considerable interest in understanding the different career options available to them. The practical suggestions and experiences shared by Dr. Rupesh Kumar Reddy provided valuable guidance to the students in planning their careers and making informed decisions about their future.
The programme concluded with a note of appreciation to the resource person, organizers, faculty members, and students for their active participation. The guest lecture proved to be highly informative, motivating, and beneficial, particularly in helping students understand the diverse employment opportunities available in agriculture and allied sectors and the steps required to successfully enter the professional world.
Overall, the programme served as an important platform for career awareness and motivation, empowering the students to explore suitable opportunities and prepare themselves effectively for successful careers in both the public and private sectors of agriculture.
