The 80th Independence Day was celebrated at Babu Jagjivan Ram Agricultural College, Sircilla, with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. The programme commenced with floral tributes being offered to the freedom fighters and national leaders by the respected Associate Dean, along with the teaching, non-teaching, outsourcing staff, and students, as a mark of respect and remembrance for the sacrifices made by them. This was followed by the playing of the National Song. Thereafter, the Associate Dean hoisted the National Flag, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
Following the flag-hoisting ceremony, Dr. T. Arunbabu, OISA, addressed the gathering and explained the significance of Independence Day. He highlighted the importance of remembering the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and emphasised the responsibilities of every citizen towards nation-building. He particularly stressed that, as agricultural graduates, the students have a special responsibility to serve the nation by contributing to the development and adoption of improved and sustainable agricultural practices. A few students and non-teaching staff members also shared their views and experiences on the importance of Independence Day.
Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Assistant Professor, Department of Plant Pathology, stated that Independence Day reminds every citizen of their responsibility towards the progress and development of the nation. He emphasised that true independence can be strengthened through sincere efforts, responsible citizenship, and meaningful contributions to society.
Dr. S. Upendhar, Associate Dean, highlighted the significant contribution of the agricultural and allied sectors to India’s development. He recalled how the agricultural sector played a vital role during the Green Revolution in making the country self-sufficient in food production. He stated that the focus now needs to shift towards producing nutrient-rich food through sustainable agricultural practices. He motivated the agricultural graduates to dedicate themselves to serving the farming community, which is the backbone of the nation, and to contribute towards improving the livelihoods of farmers through scientific and sustainable agricultural technologies.
