Siddipet conducted Diagnostic field visit in Paddy at Mittapally & Ghanapur villages

TRVK, Siddipet conducted diagnostic field visit in Paddy at Mittapally & Ghanapur villages on 04.08.2026 along with Agriculture department officials (MAO- Srinath, AEO-Rajesh). During the visit, incidence of rice stem borer and sulphide toxicity was observed in transplanted paddy fields. Dr. Ch. Pallavi, Coordinator & Scientist (CP), TRVK, Siddipet, advised the farmers to manage rice stem borer by spraying Cartap Hydrochloride + Emamectin Benzoate @ 3 kg/acre, or Isocycloseram @ 120 ml/acre, or Tetraniliprole @ 100 ml/acre. She explained that sulphide toxicity is commonly observed in fields where paddy is continuously cultivated under prolonged water stagnation, particularly in heavy clay soils and fields receiving excessive sulphur-containing fertilizers (20:20:0:13, Ammonium sulphate). The affected plants exhibited yellowing in patches, poor growth, blackened and decayed roots with a foul smell, indicating hydrogen sulphide toxicity. She informed the farmers that the problem may result in 30–50% yield loss if timely corrective measures are not adopted. She advised the farmers to improve field drainage by removing excess standing water and allowing the field to dry intermittently to enhance soil aeration. She recommended growing and incorporating green manure crops before puddling in susceptible fields, maintaining a well-levelled field to avoid water stagnation, and avoiding the use of ammonium sulphate and other sulphur-rich fertilizers in affected areas. She further advised the spraying of 100-150 g of Carbendazim (25%) + Mancozeb (50%) or Propiconazole @ 2 ml per litre of water to minimize the adverse effects of sulphide toxicity and protect the crop. In this programme farmers Mr. Rajaiah, Malla Reddy, Ashok Reddy from Mittaplly & Ghanapur villages and 10 farmers participated.
