Palem organized an Awareness Programme on the Contingency Crop Plan in view of the prevailing El Nino conditions

KVK, Palem in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Horticulture, organized an Awareness Programme on the Contingency Crop Plan in view of the prevailing El Nino conditions and a Training on “Sucking Pest Management in cotton” at Nakkalapally Village, Peddakothapally Mandal, Nagarkurnool District on 23.07.2026. During the programme, Dr. O. Shaila, SMS (Plant Protection), emphasized the need to modify the existing cropping pattern in Nagarkurnool district in view of the current weather scenario and anticipated El Nino conditions, advised that from the last week of July to second fortnight of August, farmers can opt for contingency crops such as redgram, blackgram, greengram, millets, bajra, ragi, korra, maize, and vegetable crops, depending on the availability of rainfall also stressed that under the prevailing moisture stress conditions, protective irrigation at critical crop growth stages is essential to minimize yield losses. Further, created awareness on the management of sucking pests and thrips-associated Tobacco Streak Virus (TSV) through timely monitoring and adoption of appropriate integrated pest management (IPM) practices. Officials from the Department of Agriculture and Department of Horticulture, the Village Sarpanch, other local leaders, and 37 farmers participated in the programme.
