ARS, Adilabad – Celebration of 62nd University Foundation Day

62nd Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University Foundation Day was celebrated at office premises. The programme started with the inauguration ceremony followed by the University song and offering floral tribute at ARS, Adilabad on 12.06.2026. Teaching and Non Teaching Staff members, Outsourcing staff, Casual labors (MTS) and Contract labours were participated in the programme.

On this occasion, Dr. Sreedhar Chauhan, PS (Agro.) & Head; Dr. K. Rajashekar, Sr. Scientist (Ento.); Dr. D. Mohan Das, Scientist (Agro.); Dr. M. Rajendar Reddy, Scientist (Pl. Br.) and Dr. G. Praveen Kumar, Scientist (Pl. Br.) briefed the gathering on the history and evolution of the University.

Speakers explained that the University was established on 12 June 1964, with O. Pulla Reddy serving as its first Vice-Chancellor. The University was formally inaugurated on 20 March 1965 by Lal Bahadur Shastri, the then Prime Minister of India, in Hyderabad. Another significant milestone was achieved on 23 June 1966, when the University’s building programme was inaugurated by Indira Gandhi, who was then serving as Prime Minister of India.

Following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the University was renamed Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, while the headquarters of Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University was shifted from Hyderabad to Guntur. Named in honour and memory of Professor Kothapalli Jayashankar, PJTSAU is the only Agricultural University in Telangana and came into existence following its bifurcation from Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University. The legacy in Ag. research, education & extension since 1964 is highlighted.

Finally, they shared their experiences regarding the university’s history, growth, contributions to the agricultural sector and its evolution over the years. They emphasized the university’s vital role in promoting farmer welfare, advancing agricultural research and disseminating modern technologies. They also noted that the university’s initiatives and services have significantly contributed to the development of the agricultural sector and have greatly benefited the farming community.
