Sri. Thummala Nageshwara Rao, Honourable minister for Agriculture, Marketing, Cooperation, and Handlooms & Textiles inaugurated seed week -2026 at ARI, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad on 23.05.2026

Seed week-2026 was inaugurated on 23rd of May, 2026 at Agricultural Research Institute, Rajendranagar for supply of quality seed to farmers. During the inaugural session of Seed Week–2026, Dr. K.Laxmiprasanna, Scientist (Pl.Br) , RRU, ARI, Rajendranagar invited the dignitaries on to the Dias. Dr.M. Balram , Director of Research, PJTAU  emphasized the importance of the Seed Week–2026 programme and highlighted the availability of improved varieties in different crops at PJTAU .Dr. Y. Chandra Mohan, Director, ARI  explained the fine grain paddy varieties available for cultivation and suggested the farmers to utilize the seed week programme for getting higher yields by taking quality seed from university .

Aldas Janaiah, Honourable Vice Chancellor of PJTAU, elaborated on the two major mottos of the University, namely knowledge sharing from the University to farmers through the RMS Programme and distribution of quality seed through seed week programme. He further emphasized that, due to the QSEV programme during the previous year, university-released varieties had spread over an area of about 6.0 lakh acres. Progressive farmers also shared their experiences regarding the services rendered by the University in supplying quality seed to farmers.

Thummala Nageswara Rao, Honourable Minister for Agriculture, Marketing, Cooperation, and Handlooms & Textiles, in his inaugural address, stated that seed is the basic and most important input for obtaining higher yields. He stressed the importance of cultivating market-demanded varieties rather than merely high-yielding varieties. He also highlighted the significance of crop diversification and appreciated the quality seed standards maintained by the University in seed distribution. He distributed seed packets to progressive farmers during the programme and also appreciated the university for their efforts in making quality seed available to farmers

  1. Bhadru, Principal scientist (Maize & Millets), MRU, ARI   explained the maize hybrids available and the management practices required for achieving higher yields in maize. Dr.S.Sridhar Siddi, Scientist (Pl.Br) RRU, ARI  explained the paddy varieties available and their important characteristics.

A total of 250 farmers and Scientific and Non-teaching staff of the Agricultural Research Institute, Rajendranagar participated in the event.
