Training programme on zero tillage Maize cultivation and input distribution
Agricultural Research Station, Karimnagar organized a “Training programme on zero tillage maize cultivation and input distribution under SC Sub Plan and NFSM-FLD” at Madipalli Village, Jammikunta Mandal, Karimnagar District” on 30-03-2026. At the outset, Dr. E. Umarani, Scientist (Pl. Br.), ARS, Karimnagar has welcomed gathering and explained about the importance of maize crop, promotion of maize under zero till conditions, problems and perceptive of zero tillage maize cultivation. She also explained about the objectives of the SC Sub Plan and NFSM-FLD programme.
Followed by, Dr. B. Ramprasad, Principal Scientist (Ento.) and Head, ARS, Karimnagar briefed about the research activities carried out at ARS, Karimnagar. Further, he explained in detail about the best management practices of zero tillage maize and integrated pest and disease management in Rabi maize. Later, the chief guest of the programme Smt. J. Bhagyalaxmi, DAO, Karimnagar highlighted the importance of crop diversification and residue management of maize. Followed by, Smt. Sunitha, ADA Huzurabad expressed her views on green manuring and adverse effects of monocropping.
Later, Dr. Srinivas Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Jammikunta explained in detail about the pest management under zero tillage maize conditions and integrated pest management of FAW. Dr. G. Usharani, Scientist (Pl. Br.) ARS, Karimnagar focused on, hybrids released from ARS, Karimnagar, hybrid seed production technology and cultivation of specialty corns as means to generate additional income
Followed by Sri. M. Swamy a progressive farmer from Madipalli shared his experiences about the cultivation of Karimnagar Makka-1 hybrid under mechanized conditions. Further, M. Swapna, J. Suresh and Sri Raju gave their feedback about cultivation of Karimnagar Makka-1, which is the only option for cultivation in their wilt prone soils.
Later, inputs (pre emergence herbicide atrazine@1kg/acre, Post emergence herbicide Mesotrione + atrazine @1400ml/acre, pesticide Chlorantraniliprole@60 ml/acre and Zn EDTA@500g/acre) were distributed to the 50 SC community farmers of madipally village. Followed all the participants visited the FLD fields of Karimnagar Makka-1. Smt, D. Padma, AO, ARS, Karimnagar, Sri. Ramprasad, AEO Madipalli, Sri. Sampath AEO Ellanthakunta and around 108 progressive farmers from Madipalli revenue village were attended the programme. The programme was ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. G. Usharani, Scientist (Pl. Br.), ARS, Karimnagar.
