Training cum awareness campaign on Crop Diversification
KVK, Palem in collaboration with RARS, Palem organized a “Training cum awareness campaign on Crop Diversification” on 31.03.2026 at KVK, Palem. On this occasion Dr. L. Krishna, ADR, STZ, RARS, Palem, emphasized the importance of crop diversification and explained the necessary steps for adopting diversified cropping systems and also interacted with the farmers and gathered their opinions and feedback on crop diversification practices.
Sri. B. Purna Chandra Reddy, ADA, Nagarkurnool, highlighted the district scenario, existing cropping pattern, and the level of technology adoption among the farmers of Nagarkurnool district. Smt. Lavanya Ramana Reddy emphasized the importance of organic farming strategies in various crops of the district and stressed the need to improve soil health in the present scenario. Dr. M. Sreedhar, PS (Oilseeds), highlighted the reasons behind the declining area under groundnut cultivation, particularly the non-availability of quality seed and the incidence of stem rot. He further informed that RARS, Palem is making concerted efforts to provide improved groundnut varieties in the coming days.
Dr. D. Sashi bhushan, PS (Millets) emphasized the increasing trend in millet cultivation in the district by sharing success stories of millet farmers and informed about the availability of millet seed at RARS, Palem. Dr. O. Shaila highlighted the IPDM practices in various crops for effective pest and disease management. Sri Ramana Reddy, Progressive Farmer from Karvanaga Village of Telkapally Mandal, shared his success story and experiences in adopting organic farming practices. Sri Chandraiah from Khanapur Village and Sri Chandraiah from Vaddeman Village of Bijinepally Mandal expressed the difficulties they faced in adopting crop diversification and highlighted their training needs on various agricultural themes.During the event, a farmer–scientist interaction was organized wherein various topics such as crop diversification, millet cultivation, market linkages, procurement centres for different commodities, organic product outlets and opportunities in the district, Processing units for millets, mechanization in blackgram and greengram, availability of quality seed particularly for groundnut, and need of crop-specific awareness campaigns were discussed. In this event, All the scientific staff of RARS KVK, Palem and 41 farmers from Bijinepally, Tadoor, Telkapally have participated.
