Agricultural Market Intelligence

Agricultural markets are evolving rapidly at local, national, and global levels. These shifts directly influence farmgate prices and farmer incomes. However, most rural producers lack the capacity to interpret market trends, price behavior and consumer preferences. To address this gap, Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU) established the Agricultural Market Intelligence Centre (AMIC) with financial support from the Agricultural Marketing Department, Government of Telangana.

The Centre provides timely, reliable, and actionable price and market intelligence to help farmers and stakeholders make informed decisions on what to grow, when to sell, and where to sell.

Aims

  • Enable farmers to secure higher net prices for their produce.
  • Strengthen regional linkages for generating, sharing, and disseminating market information.
  • Improve access to and effective use of market intelligence for better production and marketing strategies across the value chain.

Objectives

  • Provide pre-sowing and pre-harvest price forecasts for major crops.
  • Deliver commodity intelligence to all stakeholders, including policymakers.
  • Supply information on high-price markets for producers.
  • Enhance market intelligence dissemination systems.
  • Build stakeholder capacity to interpret and use price intelligence.
  • Develop commodity market outlooks for selected crops.
