Awareness Programme on Crop Diversification” conducted at Rythu Vedika
ARS, Kunaram was organized “Awareness Programme on Crop Diversification on 30th March, 2026 at Rythu Vedika, Kunaram (Village), Srirampur (Mandal), Peddapalli District. The programme was attended by Sri. T. Kantha Rao, ADA (Technical) & DAO In-charge, Peddapalli District, Sri. Srinadh, ADA (R), Peddapalli Division, Sri. Nagarjuna, MAO, Srirampur Mandal, Sri. Ramu, HEO, and Smt. Sankeerthana, AEO, Kunaram Village. Dr. B. Satish Chandra, Senior Scientist (Plant Breeding) & Head, ARS, Kunaram has explained the importance of crop diversification and highlighted the cultivation of high-profit crops such as oilseeds (Groundnut, Sunflower, Sesame, Safflower), pulses, and millets and also
advised farmers to grow high-value, low water-requirement crops that have good market demand and price potential. Sri. T. Kantha Rao, DAO (I/c), Peddapalli District urged farmers to reduce paddy cultivation during the ensuing Vanakalam season, citing its high water requirement and susceptibility to pests and diseases and he also suggested cultivating short
duration crops such as millets, pulses, and oilseeds, and also encouraged oil palm cultivation and vegetable farming.Sri. Srinadh, ADA (R), Peddapalli Division emphasized the need to avoid excessive use of urea and to promote organic farming. Further he also advised farmers to reduce paddy area and increase vegetable cultivation to improve soil health and sustainability.Sri. Ramu, HEO, Srirampur mandal explained the various subsidy schemes available under the Horticulture Department for orchards, vegetables, and oil palm cultivation. Later at the end of meeting farmers feedback was taken as per proforma regarding adoption of crop diversification practices. A total of 43 farmers participated and actively participated during the meeting.
