The Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Palem organized a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) programme in the adopted village Indrakal of Tadoor Mandal on 13th August 2025. The programme was conducted with the active involvement of RAWEP (Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme) students of B.Sc. (Agriculture), Agricultural College, Palem, who systematically studied and explained various aspects of the village to the farmers. The students presented details about the village geography and carried out a SWOT analysis to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats faced by the community. They explained the existing cropping pattern, sources of irrigation, types of soils, available infrastructure facilities and wealth rankings by using various diagrammatic PRA methods such as transact walks and Venn diagrams to illustrate the relationships between different institutions and the farming community. Agricultural scientists interacted with the farmers and in view of the recent heavy rains, provided timely suggestions and remedial measures for managing cotton and rice crops to reduce possible yield losses. The programme witnessed active participation from Dr. M. Shankar, Dr. G. Eshwara Reddy, A. Sriram (Scientists, RARS Palem), Agricultural Extension Officer Ch. Srikanth, RAWEP students Arthi, Chandana, Pavithra, Swathi and Meghna Santhosh, along with enthusiastic participation from the villagers and farmers of Indrakal. The PRA exercise provided valuable insights into the agricultural and socio-economic profile of the village while strengthening farmer–scientist relationships for effective dissemination of agricultural technologies.
