The AICRP on Agroforestry, Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University with the support from CARRIER Pvt. Ltd., through NIRMAAN NGO, Hyderabad conducted a plantation drive at new Agri-biodiversity Park, PJTAU on 10th March 2026. In this programme, Dr AV Ramanjaneyulu, Pr. Scientist (Agro.) & Head, Mr. A. Rambabu and Mr. P. Bikshapathi, AEOs from AICRP on Agroforestry, PJTAU, Mr. T. Surya, Co-ordinator from NIRMAAN NGO, Hyderabad have participated actively. 500 saplings of Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) (block plantation) and Coconut (Cocos nucifera) (boundary plantation) are being planted on the eve of Sheetala Saptami and Kalashtami. Mahaogany is a highly valued timber species known for it’s durability, reddish-brown wood, which is used for premium furniture, musical instruments, boat building, flooring, and construction. It is also known for treating diabetes and hypertension. It is one of the great source of earning carbon credits in India. Coconut is a versatile tree and acts as a vital source of daily income and excellent at stabilizing soil, increasing infiltration rates, and reducing surface runoff. These blocks are used for research on Agroforestry.
