A field day on the groundnut variety Visistha (TCGS-1694) was organized by the Agricultural Research Station, Karimnagar on 27-02-2026 at its campus. During the programme, Dr. B. Ramprasad, Principal Scientist (Entomology) and Head, ARS, Karimnagar, explained the major insect pests of groundnut such as leaf miner, tobacco caterpillar, aphids, thrips, and root grub, along with their integrated pest management practices. He also highlighted the role of micronutrients in improving groundnut productivity. Dr. E. Rajanikanth, Scientist (Agronomy), elaborated on the varietal characteristics of Visistha, groundnut crop management practices, and the scope for cultivating alternative crops to rice during the rabi season under crop diversification. He discussed the performance of the groundnut variety Visistha and highlighted its suitability for rabi cultivation under local agro-climatic conditions and also emphasized the importance of gypsum application @ 500 kg/ha at the pegging stage for better pod development. Dr. B. Harikrishna, Coordinator, TRVK, Karimnagar, discussed the superior performance of the Visistha variety based on the feedback received from farmers who participated in the Front-Line Demonstrations (FLDs) conducted by TRVK, Karimnagar and also emphasized about the importance of oilseed production in Telangana. The programme was also attended by Dr. G. Usharani, Scientist (Plant Breeding), Dr. E. Umarani, Scientist (Plant Breeding), Dr. K. Madan Mohan Reddy, Scientist (TOT), and Dr. M. Rajendraprasad, Scientist (CP). An interactive session was held in which farmers raised various issues related to groundnut cultivation, and the scientists provided appropriate technical recommendations. Overall, the programme was attended by 25 farmers from Karimnagar district and was found to be informative and useful for promoting rabi groundnut cultivation under local conditions.
