Officials from the Department of Seed Certification and Organic Certification, Tamilnadu, visited Maize and Rice Research Institutes on 24 th February 2026. Dr. M. V. Nagesh Kumar, Director (Seeds), elaborated on the university’s seed production systems, varietal and hybrid commercialization strategies, and mechanisms for ensuring genetic purity and quality assurance. Dr. Y. Chandra Mohan, Director, ARI, highlighted the major achievements in maize and rice research, including the development and release of improved rice varieties and high-yielding maize hybrids tailored to diverse agro-ecologies. Dr. Sridhar Siddi, Senior Scientist (Pl. Br) explained about the PJTAU released varieties of paddy and Dr. D. Sravani, Scientist (Pl.Br) highlighted the yield potential and adaptability of recently released maize hybrids DHM 206, DHM 182, DHM 211, DHM 213 & DHM 218. The team of officials emphasized that RNR 15048 and KNM 1638 spread in lakhs of acres in Tamilnadu. The team interacted with scientists of maize and rice research programmes to understand advanced breeding, hybrid development, and quality seed production technologies. They visited experimental fields, seed production plots, and research facilities to observe varietal evaluation and seed management practices. Scientists explained modern approaches for improving productivity and maintaining seed quality. The visit strengthened technical knowledge, promoted institutional collaboration, and facilitated exchange of expertise in maize and rice research and seed certification systems effectively and sustainably. The visits promote capacity building and support the development of robust seed systems to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability.
