The Extension Education Institute (Southern Region), PJTAU, Hyderabad, organised a national-level webinar on ECHO – Combating Anti-Microbial Resistance: Strategies for a Safer Future on 24.11.2025. The programme brought together 107 participants from agriculture, veterinary, and medical sciences to highlight the growing threat of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) across sectors. The webinar commenced at 10:00 AM with a warm welcome by Dr. M. Preethi, Professor, EEI Hyderabad. Dr. M. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Director, EEI, outlined the objectives of the programme, emphasizing the urgent need for coordinated actions against AMR to safeguard human, animal, and environmental health. The first technical session featured Dr. Kamal Krishna Pal, Principal Scientist at Directorate of Groundnut Research Junagadh and Head, School of Drought Stress management, ICAR-NIASM, Baramati. He spoke on Antimicrobial Resistance in Crops and Soil: Safeguarding for Sustainable Agriculture highlighting emerging AMR risks in agricultural ecosystems, sustainable mitigation strategies, drivers of AMR and its repercussions on food, health and environment. In the second session, Dr. A. Vijaya Kumar, Associate Professor & Head, Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology, CVSc, Mamnoor, Warangal, addressed AMR in Livestock: Protecting Animal Health and Food Safety. He stressed the need for prudent antibiotic use, surveillance, and field-level awareness among livestock stakeholders. The final session was delivered by Dr. Deepali Vagdalkar from Malla Reddy Medical College, Hyderabad, who spoke on “AMR in Healthcare: The Silent Clinical Crisis.” Her presentation shed light on the clinical implications of AMR, treatment challenges, and the importance of stewardship in healthcare settings. The webinar concluded at 1.30 PM with a vote of thanks by Dr. M. Preethi, who expressed gratitude to all speakers, participants, and collaborating institutions for their contribution toward fostering a One Health approach to combating AMR.
